Session 5 - Indigenous Realities in Canada

  • Tenth Church 11 West 10th Avenue Vancouver, BC, V5Y 1R5 Canada (map)

We’re excited to offer this course in partnership with Tenth Church:

Throughout this six-class course, Rev. Dr. Ray Aldred will be walking us through Indigenous realities in Canada. The Residential School tragedy highlights the need for Canadian Christians to learn from  Indigenous perspectives and practices. This course aims at helping build a healthy respect for Indigenous identity, and seeking to become an ally. You’ll explore the topics of Indigenous spiritualities (Indigenizing theology); treaties, both ancient and contemporary (Indigenous Story and Land and biblical interpretation); a brief history of the interaction between the Church and Indigenous Peoples (The Indigenous Christ); finally, the history of reconciliation in Canada (Indigenous conceptions of identity and evangelism). Through this, you’ll develop a healthy respect for Indigenous Peoples to help build a climate of collaboration within your life and community.

This course does not run consecutively for 6 weeks. The schedule is:

  • Apr 25 – Session 1

  • May 2 – Session 2

  • May 9 – Session 3
